This week, I was doing a bunch of searching, trying to find a new T rated story that I resonated with and instead was coming up in dead end after dead end. After whining to Pushy with how lame I was, I said something like, "I wish I could write a post about the awesome book I'm reading, because that would TOTALLY work for The Peach Grove! Hey, wait, I could do that, right?" And my wonderful, fantastic, kick ass buddy Pushy said, "YES!"
So, believe it or not, this is NOT a Twilight related post. Are you still reading? Yes? Well, big gold star for you!
This Christmas I got a giftcard for Borders Books from my brother in law. Wooo hooo! So after ordering Beautiful Creatures, the wonderful website suggested I'd also like the book Fallen by Lauren Kate.

I admit it, I'm a sucker for pretty cover.
And then I remembered seeing this book on Pushy's blog too.
And I hit a promotion: Buy 5 books, get one free AND it's on sale. So I bought it.
And man, am I glad I did.
I was hooked in the first 5 pages. It's hard to recommend a book without spoiling the whole plot, but I'll try. And just know, that I haven't finished it yet; I'm trying to savor it because this is the only one out right now. However, a sequel is in the works!
A girl named Luce is sent to boarding school due to an accident that happened with her a boy a few months ago. Luce is a normal sort of girl, except that she sees things. Shadowy things. Scary shadowing things (like that part in Ghost where the bad shadow things eat the bad guy at the end and take him to hell, I think they're like that). Anyway, she ends up meeting all these strange characters at a school called Sword and Cross.
But the most surprising character is Daniel Grigori. Beautiful Daniel, the boy she can't keep her eyes or her mind off of. And even though he blows her off and is outright rude to her, he says things. Things that imply that he knows her, or knew her, maybe.....before.....say....hmm.....in a previous life perhaps?
And her own mind says foreign things to her, also implying that she knows him, from...uh....before......
OK - so that's the tricky supernatural bit. I mean....I can't give it all away.
But there is something strange going on at this reform school..... and then the love story. *shivers* I just love it. And I'm so flipping mad that I didn't write this story myself!
So, on to the little tease:
A dream:
"Are you scared?" Daniel asked. His head was tilted sideways, his blond hair disheveled by a soft breeze. He was holding her, and while his grip was firm around her waist, it was as smooth and light as a silk sash. Her own fingers were laced behind his shirtless neck.
Was she scared? Of course not. She was with Daniel. Finally. In his arms. The truer question pulling at the back of her mind was: Should she be scared? She couldn't be sure. She didn't even know where she was.
She could smell rain in the air, close by. But both she and Daniel were dry. She could feel a long white dress flowing down to her ankles. There was only a little light left in the day. Luce felt a stabbing regret at wasting the sunset, as if there were anything she could do to stop it. Somehow she knew these final rays of light were as precious as the last drops of honey in a jar.
"Will you stay with me?" she asked. Her voice was the thinnest whisper, almost canceled out by a low groan of thunder. A gust of wind swirled around them, brushing Luce's hair into her eyes. Daniel folded his arms more tightly around her, until she could breathe in his breath, could smell his skin on hers.
"Forever," he whispered back. The sweet sound of his voice filled her up.
There was a small scratch on the left side of his forehead, but she forgot it as Daniel cupped her cheek and brought her face nearer. She tilted her head back and felt the whole of her body go slack with expectation.
Finally, finally, his lips came down on hers with an urgency that took her breath away. He kissed her as if she belonged to him, as naturally as if she were some long-lost part of him that he could at last reclaim.
Then the rain started to fall. It soaked their hair, ran down their faces and into their mouths. The rain was warm and intoxicating, like the kisses themselves.
Luce reached around his back to draw him closer and her hands slid over something velvety. She ran one hand over it, then another, searching for its limits, and then peered past Daniel's glowing face.
Something was unfurling behind him.
Wings. Lustrous and iridescent, beating slowly, effortlessly, shining in the rain. She'd seen them before, maybe, or something like them somewhere.
"Daniel," she said, gasping. The wings consumed her vision and her mind. They seemed to swirl into a million colors, making her head hurt. She tried to look elsewhere, anywhere else, but on all sides, all she could see besides Daniel were the endless pinks and blues of the sunset sky. Until she looked down and took in one last thing.
The ground.
Thousands of feet below them.

So go to that foreign place, yes, that one. The one I know you haven't visited in way too long: the library. Or if you like to buy your books (which I ONLY do if I have a gift card!) head over to your local bookstore (or *shameface* Walmart) and pick this baby up. It's a fairly quick read, and very well written. Luce is a bit sassy and all the support characters are just a heck of a lot of fun to read. And Daniel.....*sigh*........ Let's just leave it at that......
Enjoy and HAPPY WEEKEND!!!!!
